David Taylor-Schott

David Taylor-Schott joined California Poets in the Schools in 2005. Before joining CPITS, he taught writing to all grade levels in Santa Barbara schools for 25 years and led in-services and workshops for colleagues throughout the West. David is famous among his K-1 students for his magic hat.

David earned his BA at UCSB and his teaching credential at Westmont College. He is a fellow in the South Coast Writing Project, has been a participant in the Santa Barbara Summer Poetry Workshop, and participates in a crafting workshop led by Perie Longo.

David reads his work locally and has been published in Santa Barbara Magazine, the Community of Voices anthology When We Were Young and the Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society. He has also contributed to Process Reading and Writing: A Literature-Based Approach, published by Teachers College Press, and Critical Thinking in a Nuclear Age, published by the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as to reading and writing programs distributed by The Reading Center. He is a co-author of Hot Water, a book on solar water heating.
